If you are looking for a new style this season then look no further. The fashion world is currently seeing a whole new appreciation for the – what was once deemed as old-fashioned –wool necktie, and this trend is coming back with a vengeance. The fact that we are heading into winter makes wool and cashmere ties even more of the statement piece and with the warmth of the fabric, you’ll be sure to see a huge range of styles adorning the necks of men in the office, bar and high street.
But it is no coincidence that the wool necktie has been placed at the forefront of fashion once again. With some excellent styles, designs and looks available incorporating this long forgotten accessory, it should be around for a while. But before you rush out to get this latest trendy tie, it’s important to know what you’re looking for.
Size It Up
As with any tie, it is important that you find one that is the right size. Wear a tie that is too short and you’ll look like you’ve just started secondary school again; and wear a tie that is too long and you will instantly look shorter and less astute. So what is the perfect size?
- Choose a width that is the same as the lapel on your jacket for a classic look.
- If you are broad shouldered choose a wider tie and if you have a slim figure go with a skinny tie.
- Make sure that when you tie it around your neck both ends of the tie or around equal length (with the front one being slightly longer) and that it reaches around an inch above your belt buckle.
Crack the Colour Code
The colour of your tie is just as important as the size so you need to put a lot of careful thought into it. Your tie can often be your statement piece so it is important that it says what you want it to at that you get the right reaction. So how do you choose a colour?
- Choose the rest of your outfit first, then you will know which accent colours you need your tie.
- You can get woollen knit ties in a huge range of colours, so don’t be afraid to experiment a little.
- When choosing your tie it should contain your suit colour, your shirt colour (unless white) and one accent colour.
Choose Quality
There is nothing worse that the poor quality tie. It brings down the look of your whole outfit and will not give the impression that you want. When shopping for a new wool tie, make sure you choose a quality one. Paying attention to all of these details will ensure that you purchase a quality tie at a great price and that your whole outfit will say exactly what you want it to.
